The London Marathon

Today was the day of the London Marathon, when 40,000 people thunder around 25 miles (40Km) of London streets.

I went down to see them and cheer them on at Canary Wharf, around 17 miles (27Km) into the race. The atmosphere is great, all the spectators cheer on the runners, most of whom have their names (or monikers like "Billy No Mates") on their shirts, so that people can cheer them on. I've put a selection of shots on My Other Stuff, for you to see. The fun runners, in all manner of costumes are astonishing - the ones in my shots are all up with the pace.

I am full of admiration for these runners - well done to all.

I'm worn out just looking! Think I'll get another cup of coffee...that's enough exercise for me today. Great subject for a photo Ham.

Hi Ham,
I love too the atmosphere of these big popular runnings... It's not easy to photograph this kind of event. Excellent pic, with at the same time the crowd, the movment, the effort... and the fun!

Great photo.

The centre person's arms complement the 'Flora' signs.

Eric, but I was in the race - at least for the 20 yards it took to cross the road!

BW, thanks for that. The only shame about the pic is that the camera autofocus got fooled, but it is still my favorite of the day.
