Walthamstow Assembly Hall

The Walthamstow Asembly Hall is another strong candidate for the now-I've-seen-a-picture-no-need-to-go-there gold award 2006. Set in a barren suburban landscape with little to recommned it, the thirties built building at least makes a reasonable photograph. Also, it is noted for it's accoustics, so quite a number of orchestras are recorded here.

If you don't find the building attractive, you could go inside and close your eyes to listen to the music. Actually that's the way I really like to listen to classical music.

I like the tower on top. It's somewhat stately, and the fountain is nice.

I remember being really shocked the first time I drove past and spotted the Hall - because it really is out of place in tis surroundings.

Oh, it's not worth seeing? But it looks great!!!

Sorry if I wansn't clear. The building is great, but the area is bad, as ems says.

The building in the centre of the photo is actually Walthamstow Town Hall. The Assembly Hall is the block just to the right with just a couple of pillars in view.

Allegedly there used to be some crocodiles living in that fountain (though I've only ever seen ducks).

Nice to see other bloggers coming to 'stow :)
