Chestnuts roasting on an open fire

There's nothing so reminiscent of winter in London as catching a whiff of chestnets roasting on a brazier. There are few left, this man runs a fruit & veg stall in Covent Garden

I don't think I have ever had a roasted chestnut. Have I led a sheltered...or just dull life?

Well, you certainly have missed out, yes Lavender Lady! They are delICIOUS! Adore them. Haven't seen any street sellers yet this year :( are they getting thin on the ground? As a child, we would walk along Oxford and Regent Street and in Knightsbridge stopping every so often for a tiny bag of yummy chestnuts!

YUMMY! Even this So Cal Girl loves 'em...and I didn't even grow UP with them! My MIL always has them around this time of year...and she's from Indonesia...think she steams them in the pressure cooker tho...go figure! Ahhh... a fruit & two veg...I mean FRUIT & VEG stand...very charming! ;-)

I've never tried a hot chestnut. I'll have to come to London to try one.
