London to Brighton Veteran Car Run
The first Sunday in November is the date for the annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run (for cars built before 1905). It has been held every year (except during petrol rationing) to celebrate the emancipation of the motor car - the raising of the speed limit from 4mph to a staggering 14mph and the abolition of the Act that required someone to walk in front with a red flag.
After trolling down to Hyde Park for the 07:00 start, I wanted to choose some pictures that conveyed the spirit of the event. This is the one I settled on - click here for the "also ran"
Lots more pics here.

Brilliant. How stylish.
I am betting that vehicle is also environmentally friendly.
Nice photograph.
I did post some hummingbird photos yesterday at my website linked below.

I didn't see any of those wonderful vehicles this year. How could I have missed them? What a wasted Sunday.
Sadly, we all have to moderate comments these days.
And ironically, a large percentage of early automobiles were electric! I was amazed to discover this interesting fact... but electric cars such as the 'Baker Electric' were commonplace around 1907 here in the states.
The more things change...

Excellent...thanks again for asking me down to see this Ham, some of my pix also now up at the Planarchy Blog.
Congrats, Ham on getting up so early for this nice capture. Good choice.
On speed limits.....well, the "humps men" are taking us all back to 14 mph again. Grrrrr.
This is fabulous - excellent choice!
