A Sign of Learning
I am frequently amazed by the umber of schools founded in the 18th century that still have carved boys and girls above the entrance. And, there are that many I suspect they date back to the foundation. For me it harks back to a time before common literacy, when a shop or institution would place a figure outside their door. These boys and girls have been been educated in the City of London since 1710
