Not to defend the IRA (I'm not), but how about a mention for the MILLIONS of lives ruined by the Baltic Exchange's ruthless derivatives business?

Sorry imajoebob but you're completely wrong. I was a floor trader on the Baltic Exchange during the eighties. Freight Futures were only used by shippers and charterers to hedge risk. There was never enough liquidity for speculators to become involved. If you understand the concept of hedging using futures, then you'll understand that no lives were ruined by the Baltic Exchange's derivatives business.
