Naked Tower

I'm still not quite sure what has happened, because for years the Telecom Tower (Post Office Tower to those of us who remember it going up) has had its profile protected by planning, despite the dishes not being used for anything for many years. And now, they have all gone. Don't know why, but all the microwave dishes are now gone.

Camden council approved their removal in August due to safety concerns - several of the dishes were in serious disrepair and actually only had a loose connection to the tower.

Inevitably that empty space is going to get filled up with advertising.

They were pretty well obsolete. Many were likely relays that mobile technology replaced. Now the real question: is it also too obsolete (and ugly) to preserve?

Looks even more like a sonic screwdriver now!!

I remember as a very tiny tike in the late 1960s (about 4) going up to the revolving restaurant. Wish we still could. I'd appreciate the view so much more now!

Are you sure this is London and not Pisa?
