Mongol Hordes Hit London
The innocuous and fun Jelly Babies have been replaced by the more controversial figure of Genghis Kahn in the centre of Marble Arch. Strange choice, nice enough sculpture.

A London photo every day. Some pictures will be there for their own sake, some because they are places you may like to see, all because they are part of what makes London what it is. Requests welcome!

Despite common wisdom, Western Civilisation owes as much, or maybe more to the concepts of Kahn than the Greeks or Romans. And while the Sun may not have set on Victoria's Empire, it was puny compared to Khan's. Ghengis Khan and the Making of the Modern World (Wearherford) is very emlightening and a great read.
Really interesting statue. Is it a horse, a deer? Have a nice weekend!

Hi
I am a regular reader of your blog and I'm currently in London. I saw an elephant located on the top of the door of the 29 Buckingham Gate. I don't know if you have it in your Elephant series. I got a picture for you but as I could not find your email address... See you Eric. eric.bruth@gmail.com
That's a gorgeous statue. Very unusual.
To be honest I prefere the Jelly Babies. This new statue is nice although the Jelly Babies "cheered up" the area. Do you know where the Jelly Babies were relocated? Gabi
