Building on the Past
This building at 1 St John Street would doubtless tick all the fine Victorian building boxes, and is a superb example. The plaque at the top shows us a wild boar and informs us that W Harris rebuilt the building in 1897 (you can see a close up here). I do love it, but I'm actually pleased we build differently now.

I like the improvments in comfort and convenience of modern construction; but, most of them do not have the character of old buildings such as this.
