A London photo every day. Some pictures will be there for their own sake, some because they are places you may like to see, all because they are part of what makes London what it is. Requests welcome!

Hello World
And welcome to London. On Saturday night, I and around half the UK population tuned in to see the opening ceremony for the Olympics, it was an absolute triumph. It must have been absolutely fantastic to be there, but it was also designed to be televised; by Danny Boyle who knows a thing or two about these things. Do yourself a favour, if you haven't seen it, watch the torch lighting part, if you have just watch it again, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3iTWHn486c. Genius.
Just wanted to watch it, but the video has been blocked by the Olympic Comittee for copyright reasons, it says.
ReplyDeleteShame I wouldn't have minded watching it again. It was amazing, and the torch itself just breathtakingly inspired.
ReplyDeleteHow utterly small-minded!
ReplyDeleteAre y'all ready? IMO, mostly, though I had to explain the notion of IK Brunel to my kids. Even they remarked on the similarity to the actor who was commented on US television only as a former Hamlet. RIP IKB! From another engineer...
ReplyDeleteWatched it all after work Friday night. Really liked the "forging" of the rings. Well, all of it until Sebastian Coe came on and it was lights out (ironically). I woke up - no exaggeration - just as Paul McCartney was putting the final flourishes on Hey Jude. Luckily my cable operator owns NBC so we get to see a lot of it on "On Demand." Unfortunately it's all chopped up and edited, and there is not (yet) a full broadcast to re-watch.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be all over Pirate Bay in a month, if it's not already.
