Underneath the Arches
This is another of the arches left over from London Bridge when it was demolished in 1835. Unlike the one in Guy's Hospital, this one in the middle of Victoria Park has a much less solubrious area to contend with. All in all, I'd say that it has got off quite lightly. How they came to decide on leaving it here, in the middle of nowhere, is a mystery.
The inscription on this one reads: "This alcove which stood on old London Bridge was presented to her Majesty by Benjamin Dixon Esq for the use of the public and was placed here ... in 1860"
