Shadows Part II - The Globe Theatre

Shot with Olympus E520
This was my alternative for the "Shadows" theme day:
"If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumber'd here
While these visions did appear.
And this weak and idle theme,
No more yielding but a dream"
Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre should be on everyone's "must see" list. There is something quite special about watching the plays as they might have been four hundred years ago. and you rapidly realise - if you hadn't before - that they didn't have aeroplanes 400 years ago. "The Globe Theatre" is also the answer to the trivia question - "Name a timbered, thatched building in the centre of London".

The London Revue at the Hen & Chickens

Shot with Olympus E520
If you possibly can, do go and see the London Revue at the Hen & Chickens. Really.

It's an hour and a quarter of full-on entertainment; pathos, bathos, fun and laughter, a slice of London life. Four people, with voices that make you want to listen, sing about the things you know and things you see but also things often left unsaid.

For those that can't make it, here's a short video clip (note:unless you have a very fast connection you may need to pause before playing to let the video buffer)

I may well tell you more about it tomorrow.

Bankside Gates

You may have passed them by, but the Bankside Gates by the Globe Theatre really merit closer examination. The figures were inpired from the animals, insects and characters in Shakespear's plays, and 125 of the best made by blacksmiths around the world were selected to adorn the gates. See a wider shot of the gates (with the Olympus Trip) here.
