Not Venice

To me, those stripy poles scream "Venice", but in this instance it is Chelsea Harbour. In my mind, I remember a pier and houseboats here long ago, before the new Chelsea Harbour development, but maybe not.

Sir Thomas More

Thomas More lived and is buried near here on the Chelsea Embankment. What sets this statue apart is the gilded face and hands. What set the man apart was the way he lived his life to ideals - he coined the word "Utopia" - he was the Man For All Seasons. Is it only me that sees irony in that he was chosen as the patron saint of politicians? Except, I suppose, he did get up to some pretty nasty stuff so it fits.

Ooo - can I have a lick of your ice cream?

There's actually quite a lot to talk about his sculpture, as it is to commemorate Bazalgette's completion of the Chelsea Embankment, but it seemed so perfect to express the joy of a sunny spring day in London. I'll leave it stand and fill in the detail another day.
