Chelsea Harbour

Shot with Olympus E520
As I mentioned the other day, Chelsea Harbour is a manufactured office, housing, shopping and marina development. Not sure what used to be here: I'm pretty sure this would have been a harbour for some time, probably to land the coal for the power station, but there used to be a gasworks in the area, too. Go back not too many years to the 70's, and it was a very poor area. Not so any more.

Not Venice

Shot with Olympus E520
To me, those stripy poles scream "Venice", but in this instance it is Chelsea Harbour. In my mind, I remember a pier and houseboats here long ago, before the new Chelsea Harbour development, but maybe not.

Saturday Cinema

Shot with Olympus E520
Kings Road Chelsea is home to one of London's original deco cinema buildings. No longer a single main feature film and a "B" Feature that you could sit through as many times ans you wanted, these days it is more about variety - ten screens or more.

Streetlights of Desire

Shot with Olympus E520
This quirky streetlight (yes, it really is one) can be found outside the Design Centre in Chelsea Harbour. Lots of designers, filled to the gunwales with stuff, but after spending a few minutes on their website I've decided that they don't want you to know what it is they do, just that they have a clever web designer.

Fair Fairings?

Shot with Olympus E520
London has a vast number of exclusive antiques shops that huddle together in areas like Portobello Road or here, in Chelsea. Fairings are those curious, mostly fairly coarse china ornaments that were bought or won at fairs in the 19th Century. While they are collectible, they are not normally fantastically expensive. I thought I'd use this picture in connection with the Bank Holiday and Fairs. However, given the prominence of these figures and the location of the shop, I suspect that my initial identification of these as fairings might well be wrong.
