The Two Commandments

Shot with Olympus E520
A "first" for London Daily Photo today - two photos in one day. But there was no option, was there?

This is a work by Dr. D

I'm away for a few days, posting will continue.

This is how it's done.

Shot with Olympus E520
I was walking past "Grafitti Alley" on the Southbank when I came across Shiz creating this piece. You can see the finished thing on his website, here. Lots more of his work there, including his car - he takes commissions.

Take eine letter, Miss Jones

Shot with Olympus E520
Throughout East London, you may have noticed these letters, and thought there was rather a lot of them. The reason is that they are part of an entire alphabet created by Eine, a local artist.

You can read an interview here and see a google map of them all here.

I walk the Bridge

Shot with Olympus E520
A piece of creative graffiti spied on Blackfiars Bridge. Not a lot to say about this, so I offer you two Johnny Cash songs, 50 years apart. The first is fun, but as the second, if you haven't heard his rendition of "Hurt", you really ought to. Really.

Graf-floory

Shot with Olympus E520
Mostly, anything written on the floor get worn away quickly, but these anti-car designs just off Brick Lane have been executed in road paint - the stuff they use for white and yellow lines. You can see more of them here.

The Cans Festival

For those that wonder if grafitti can be art, wander down to Leake Street and the remenants of the Cans Festival. This alley under the railtrack has been covered end to end with quality art: Banksy, Faille Collective, Astekz, Inkie, Blek, they are all there and many, many more. It's been around since May and now the rising tide of mindless tags is starting to encroach. See how it was on , see how it is on my gallery.

The word is on the street

Shot with Olympus E520
Coming across this doorway in the City full of textual grafitti made me smile - you can see the whole door here.London's grafitti artists are evidently literate.

Newman Street

Shot with Olympus E520

This Banksy takes pride of place on a blank wall in Newman Street, where The Way We See It had taken me. I always find what other people see at any location fascinating - but nobody went for this striking image, although it raises issues close to any photographer's heart. It's difficult to make out, I'm afraid, but the police/security is taking a photo of the child graffiti artist.

Grafitti Goes Mainstream

Shot with Olympus E510
Friday night is the start of the Tate Modern's Long Weekend with lots going on, marking the start of the Street Art exhibition. They are using the entire façade as display space, see the perspective of this image here. I also bumped into the video producer RomanyWG making a time lapse video of the artists. I rather like some of his stuff, like this one on a Banksy piece.

Banksy's Latest

Shot with Olympus E510
The latest Banksy has caused quite a media frenzy, as a result there seem to be a constant stream of people coming to see it. It's interesting to watch how people interact with it - some treat it as a god, some just look, some have fun. It's on the side wall of an independent shop - a chemist - and it's been covered with perspex to protect it. How times have changed.

I'd say the message of this image was clear. That is, unless you have an alternative agenda. I couldn't believe the spin put on the story here.

March Theme Day - Graffiti

Shot with Olympus E510
Another month, another theme day. for March, it is graffiti. Over the years and months I've often featured images of the wealth of artistic - and not so artistic - imagery left on walls. So today, I've chosen something a little more cerebral, spied on the side of the hut in Soho square; I wonder if it was done for Valentine's day.
