I want to ride my bicycle

Shot with Olympus E520
I love seeing families and young children out on bikes, The more people use them, the more bikes will be safer on London streets, and the better it will be for everyone: Those that have to drive will have less congestion, those that need to travel will get there more quickly, those that have to breathe with have more air.

And I'm using this as an exuse to re-launch my fundraising for Breast Cancer Care. Thanks to everyone, together we raised an impressive £1,400 last year. This year with your help I'm hoping to match and exceed that.

On Saturday, I'm riding the Dunwich Dynamo - 200Km through the night. To keep me going when I start thinking at 3 a.m. in cold and dark country lanes "I don't know why I'm doing this", please sponsor me with a donation on this page - as much or as little as you like. To make it more interesting, I'm giving away some copies of a book - full details on the page: http://www.bmycharity.com/londondailyphoto

Background info why I'm now using BmyCharity.com: Justgiving.com, the site I used last year was great, but over a week ago they upgraded their site with disastrous results, so I have moved to BmyCharity.

It's Ding Day!

Shot with Olympus E500
The photo is from inside the Whitechapel Bell Foundry - see the DG for an excellent piece about this establishment. But the story is, today is Ding Day! Transport for London, the LCC and even Time Out have all listed it as an event, the idea is create a friendlier vibe during rush hour by encouraging riders to greet each other with a 'ding' of their bells. So if you hear the streets of London ringing a little more than usual, you know what's going on.

The Message is Clear...

...It's better by bike. There's been a lot of cycling stuff going on in London lately, I was too busy to get down to the Tour of Britain start last Sunday, which is a shame because there is a competition going on for cyclng photos over at TfL's excellent cycling site. You can see the entries here.

And really, folks, cycling is by far the best way to travel about London. It's fast, reliable and as safe as you make it.

London Fashion Week
or
You Don't Have to Wear Lycra

Shot with Olympus E510
The London Fashion week is hot news at the moment, and I was invited to photograph at one of the events, Wheels & Heels.

Wheels and Heels was a showcase of designers, showing how to cycle without looking like a refugee from a man-made fabric hegemony. There's a growing movement in cycling towards the mainstream, like the excellent London Cycle Chic. It's come too late to save me, but it is very refreshing to see. You can see some of the gear on the designer's web sites 1 2 4 5 6 7 8
